Energy Efficiency & Lighting Rebates in US & Canada

Ontario LED Lighting Rebates & Incentives.

Ontario Power Authority

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) plays a unique role in Ontario’s electricity sector. We coordinate province-wide conservation efforts, plan the electricity system for the long term, and contract for clean electricity resources. We do this by working closely with our industry partners and a broad range of stakeholders across the province.

Together, we are transforming Ontario’s electricity system by helping to reduce energy use, maintain reliability, and establish a clean, modern and cost-effective power grid for a sustainable future.

      Hi Terry,

Please contact your local hydro provider and the Ontario Power Authority for LED rebates & incentive information. Every province is different and is regulated by hydro companies.

I reside in rural NW ON and the only hydro provider is Ontario Power Authority / Hydro One. They do not currently have any incentive programs. If and when they do it is very small. They insist that you mail in their coupon plus the “original receipt” and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait months upon months for the minuscule refund and if you call to complain you never and I mean never see it. This has been my experience and as a result of being disappointed on at leas six occasions I will no longer participate unless it is for a significant amount of money and they offer incentives for larger projects instead of just florescent or LED lights.

Hi Maurice, the deal with some incentive programs like this one from OPA / HO, is the rebates are mail-in rebates and work like other mail-in rebates no different than ones like if you were to purchase a computer accessory from a Future Shop.

There is one company in Canada that does offer quantity discounts. I would check out this Canadian led light store.

Hi, I am a NW Ontario hydro user. I am currently looking for some quality incentives put out by the Ontario gov’t to change all our lighting in our church building from incandescent to LED. I have contacted our local Kenora Hydro, and they have steered me back to OPA. Yet in one of your previous replies to someone asking for incentives, you have mentioned for them to contact their local provider.

which is it? our local provider or the OPA?
    please respond with information.
    thanks, Ed

If anyone has businesses, whether church, farming, etc., please be aware that the OPA has a Small Business Lighting program, which is drawing to a close this year, but which allows for an up to $1500 lighting upgrade, to replace bulbs, not fixtures, but bulbs, to energy efficient alternatives, including LED bulbs.

Contact your local utility to find out if they are working with a third party provider to promote/implement the program. Burman Energy delivers this program to many utilities across the province, but Hydro One has its own process.
